I recently downloaded the Personal Edition of BeOS 5.0 to find out what it was like for myself.

It is a really robust operating system, very fast and stable. It is considerably superior to that of Linux and Windows in design. If only it had come along earlier when the first Microsoft Windows versions were failing to inspire people and Linus Travolds hadn't written the first Linux kernel yet!

The lack of decent software and the limited hardware support makes BeOS a non starter. But I recommend downloading it anyway and seeing for yourself what it is like.
