As far as I know the old TNTs and TNT2s are just naturally dark. It makes the colors look richer but it's annoying having others see fine in what looks like a pitch black area to you. What I did with my TNT was I atleast doubled the gamma in games (ie 1.0 is anywhere from 2.0-50) and then they were fine. I still have a problem seeing oil in War2 but after a few games you should got much better at locating it.
