IBM Says 8-hours too long for their Hard Drives
IBM has stated that for their Deskstar 120GXP series hard drives, the "hours of operation" per day is limited to 1/3 of the day, or 8 hours. Think that's silly? Me too.
Maybe it's just me, but I leave my computer on all 24/7. While some argue that it's better to turn your computer on/off, there's been no definitive answer that I've seen. The fact that IBM has said not to have their hard drives powered for more than 8 hours per day isn't really all the disconcerting to me though, as I am rarely on my computer for terribly long (this semester ), and I just let the hard drive power down anyway.
Thoughts?
