A guy came in to the mom 'n' pop I work at today and wanted to return a spindle of 50 CD's stating that he burnt one and it quit 1/2 way through. After explaining that in a letter from either Maxell or Memorex (I can't remember which) the dud rate for the CD's returned to them were 0.6% and stating there are many sources of coasters not related to the CD itself, we offered him a replacement CD. He owned up and admitted that he found them he just hadn't done his homework and found them cheaper elsewhere. My boss took them back but I feel ripped off.

What he tried was like printing your essay from a pack of paper and returning the remainder because Staples paper is cheaper. I just want to know what you all think.

While your at it, give me your opinions on this. I installed an ATI video card for a customer in his HP using the latest drivers from the website. He called back an hour after picking it up saying it wouldn't boot once he got it home. He brought it back in and indeed it no longer booted. From what I could tell he tried running the setup on the ATI cd and buggered the drivers. His actual use of the machine was evidenced by the rearranging of various parts of the desktop (taskbar placement, new icons, etc. I fixed it for free but again I feel lied to.

well it seems that more and more people nowadays are always trying to "beat the system". I mean I don't condone stealing at all, even from big companies, but the lengths people go through to save money are ridiculous these days. With the ever increasing cost of living these days, I can understand where these people are coming from, but that doesn't make what they're doing right...

I mean it's one thing to find a great deal and take advantage of it... it's another thing to lie your way to a better deal...

btw, what was the second guy's use for the HP machine?

Grandma uses it for her Hoyle card games and the kids couldn't play Test Drive 5 on it with the built in Rage 2c. The very cheap Xpert 128 did the trick. But still, I find that curiosity about whats on the ATI driver cd gets soooo many people in trouble in our neck of the woods and ATI drivers can be a bugger without Mr. Zeroknowledgeaboutcomputers screwing with them. Then making me feel bad saying it never did boot when he got home.

btw, what was the second guy's use for the HP machine?

    Question

ok i live in the midwest ... and there is not alot to chose from as far as stores are concerned, so if you don't mind driving 2hrs in any direction for a choice then it's ok ... so i do a lot of price shopping from my desk top ... go fig not much going on sat night at work ... so when i do go shopping i have my lil black book(no joke) with all of the prices that are out there for different products ... and i pick out a price say for a fic503+ i know what the net sells(about65-75) for and what the store is trying to sell it to me for(about90-115, and most know that when i come in i know what marked price is ...
now what i want to know it ... what you guys think about someone trying to lower the price that you are selling for ... do you think it is better to get a smaller profit and make a sale or say no and turn them away

It never hurts to ask for a better than marked price, especially when you are looking for a related group of things. I know we don't sell at the marked price when you come looking for a motherboard, RAM, and a CPU. However we live 1 1/2 hour from the Alberta border where they have no provincial sales tax. When people tell me that a place in "The Hat" has a price on a burner that is $10 cheaper, I personally welcome them to burn $50 worth of gas to save $10. And when it breaks down they can pay the travel/shipping to get it replaced/repaired.
