Hey everyone - I just sent a message to Dave for him to fix the problem we've got with the Babe thread. It's not that there's anything wrong with it...it's just that there are too many pictures posted to a single page of the thread. Most Internet Explorer windows take up only 2 or 3 megabytes of memory footprint, depending on the site they've loaded and what else you're running on your system.
The Babe thread currently has a memory footprint on my computer of 76 MB. Modem users would obviously be left in the dust here, but even on broadband as I am right now, just loading that page took my computer down to its knees! I'd hate to think what it's doing to Dave's bandwidth bills...
So, until we fix this problem, please avoid the Babe thread. We'll let you know when it's done.

Hey...don't sweat it!
Hey...it's cool. I'm not saying that we don't want you posting pictures, because that's perfectly fine by me. I'm just asking you to give us a chance to fix things administratively so that you can post to your heart's content without inadvertently bringing down the boards (Or a user's computer!).
So, don't worry, you haven't done anything wrong. Really, you've done stuff right, in that you're making the boards a better place to be, and you're showing us what we need to do to make them run better. So, in a word, thanks!

just a question, if all of the pictures are not stored on daves machine, then woulden't he be only getting hit for the html that is used and not the pic bandwidth .... and the 76 meg foot print is just pics that are being pulled from all over the net ???
please correct me if i am worng

Well the images are in being pulled from a site, not from our servers, so it's not using any of our bandwidth actually.....
So go ahead an keep posting, only recommendation i would say, keep it a minimum of like 1-3 images per reply. That way there isn't like 100 pictures on each page, and it's at least loadable

You're right, but in my case, this wasn't the issue. I was pretty sure that our server wasn't handling the bandwidth (And it was whichever freeservs were hosting the images), but in my case, I was just worried that in posting ten plus images to each message, the thread pages were going to get so large that nobody would ever be able to view them, and those that did would have server-sized chunks of RAM. The 76 megabyte footprint I mentioned was just how much mem space that session of Internet Explorer I was using was taking up, indicating that the data required for that page to load was somewhere over 70 MB. I was getting worried hearing my hard drive doing all that thrashing when it was loading the page...Now, I doubt there's THAT much HTML in the page, leaving the rest to be image data.
But, as Dave and BigChuck have agreed on, no more than 3 images per post.
