It sounds like Matrox is aiming at the corporate user and away
    from the 3D gamer.

But at the same time he said something about internet
surfing/game playing; that they would target those folks?

Matrox has made some good cards in their days, but I don't
know if this is a smart move for them.

    Time will tell.

It may be though....what they are doing is selecting a very highly targetted market....no other card can really compete with them in their own market, making them the monopoly of their market....Believe me, there's a lot more corporate users than gamers.

It's a different approach to things, and of course it's a bad move to get away from gaming if they are going to compete with others in that type of market, but it's not like that, and for the market they seem to be getting into, I think they can do very well in.

Although...All it would take is NVIDIA or ATI to make a competing card if they can devise some technologies themselves in the same field, and it would be a hell of a war field in the corporate market as well....NVIDIA took its first steps with that by adding dual monitor capabilities in their MX cards.

Yes, Matrox will have to look over their shoulders with
    NVIDIA and ATI around.

These two wouldn't think twice about taking over a piece
    of that corporate pie.

NVIDIA is well positioned to move in any or all directions
that they want to at any time.

Little johnny telling corporate daddy that he has a kick-ass
card with NVIDIA chipset that'll outdo the Matrox card is
all that could be needed. Big daddy listens to little johnny!
The boy is a wizard with the pc.

(No puns intended, just a figure of speech)

I like the fact that Matrox has been an innovator....I just wish they'd focus on the gaming market again, simply because when they did, they had some nice products in that market. I almost bought the m3D....again, almost bought the G400 when it came out. *sigh*.

Well, when/if I get a "corporate machine", I just might end up with a "Matrox in my mobo" 'puter.

yea it's a shame that matrox isn't getting into the 3D gaming market... I would have liked to see some more competition besides the Nvidia cards... I mean it was cool back when 3Dfx was actually competing with NVidia and had good products... now it's just which GeForce3 am I gonna get? I think we need another graphics chip maker here to take on Nvidia. What ever happened to that chip that was supposed to be really fast? Glaze3D I think it was... not sure though...

The thing is that bitboys actually released a card a few years ago (well, okay, they didn't release it, they had prototypes available)which had pixel shaders. Yes, pixel shaders. Years ago. Gah.

Yeah, basically this is the equation behind BitBoys:

    BitBoys = Vaporware
