I was wondering if I could use the RAID technology with just one 60gb hard drive? Can I stripe that one drive to make it a 30gb hd? DO I really need to go buy another drive to utilize this technology?

Sadly you do. RAID requires multiple hard drives (2 or more). You could use the controller with one hard drive but you wouldn't get any of the RAID benefits, maybe a slight increase in performance depending on the chipset of the mother board and raid card.

    Thanks Renz,

So I will be able to hook my one drive up to Serial ATA controller but I cant use the RAID technology. I guess I will have to save up my babysitting money for a new hard drive.

NP, just remember to get the identical drive when you are buying for best results.

Thank you for a simple but VERY GOOD breakdown on the different levels of RAID.I am looking into getting a new MB and AMD64 combo. They now have RAID5 on one of the MB's,and it was making the choice harder.Your clear discriptions will make it easier to pick one. Thanks

Thanks for the write up on RAID, you made it easy to understand. I have been looking for someone to explain it in a way that anyone could understand.
