I guess, seems like it would have been cooler to deface the outside a bit less, and have a bigger surprise.

Here's a mod for ya that *really* goes far:

Cool mod. Usually folks go the opposite way, putting effort into making a Mac work with Win.

One admittedly minor quibble: The caption of the last photo says "A Macintosh running Windows 98." Technically, it's an Apple running Windows 98. The Macintosh OS is nowhere near this cool mod.

    Angry Evil inside

Ewwwww... Thats just evil. Jeez i wonder why no one ever writes articles on how to put a G4 processor in a PC case.... Ha ha not really.

    Default Waste

This is a darn shame. There are several reasons it's a shame, too. One, it's a horrendous waste of a fantastically-engineered case. The G4 is probably the easiest case to work with of any machine ever built. Also, he complains about how a couple of screwed-on handles on a beige case looks horrible. Well, I'd ask that you look at the front of the G4 PC he's made. The beautiful graphite enclosure is tragically marred by the beige CD-ROM and floppy drive.
Next, the author obviously hasn't a clue about the Macintosh platform. I laughed quite profusely after seeing the caption to one of the pictures of the finished product. It read " Windows 98 booting on a Mac... there's a first!" Hmm. Very interesting, considering the latest Apple hardware can run Windows 98 at or above the speed most PC's can. Under emulation. Software emulation!
All in all, it's really a darn shame that the author knows nothing about the Mac platform. I take offense to te fact that he mauled a G4 case just to put PC guts inside of it. Perhaps one day he'll awaken to the hardware side of the platform, as well. Until then, I commend you on your rigorous work, but rebuke your ignorant lack of study.

    Good day,

Even though im a mac user...I can applaude your ingenuity in attempting something like this....knowing that alot of people cant help it but to modify their systems....

But, why o why o' why did you have to put a floppy drive in it? For god sake....floppies are useless things...you had a perfect face plate, CD ROM/ CD Burner whatever....

    arrrghhhh

I think you are taking this article way too seriously. It was more of a rite of passage for Drew than anything else. You have seen, I'm sure, many case modifications in your day but have you ever seen a G4 case running with an Intel processor? Why would you want to do this? I'm not totally sure but why not? If I had the resources, I just might do it as well. Admit it, it was interesting enough to bring you to our site for a peek

I have to agree with you that you can run Win98 via software emulation on a Mac. I know first hand because I've done it before but I'm almost positive you have never run it exclusively without first running a Mac OS. I know for me it was a first.

As far as the beige cdrom and such, Drew mentioned at the end of his article that he did not place an order for the bezels in time and thus could not use it. I wasn't sloppyness; he just didn't have them at the time.

"I don't have the CD bezel right now because I haven't ordered it yet, but there are two separate bezels for the CD-ROM drive. One is just a rectangular rim that goes around the CD-ROM faceplate, and the other is the pop-out door you've probably seen in most G3 and G4 towers. If you've got a buddy at an Apple store or service center, then they can probably order both for you."

I'm not defending him because we work on the same site together, I just think that you are being a little to critical of his work. I hope this clears up some things for you regarding this article.

Sit back and enjoy it for what it's worth...

    Default Butchering of a G4

    Truly, an atrocity.
I spent so much energy and time trying to ESCAPE Windoze....I tried Linux and was planning to build a Linux-only system.....until I tried a Mac. Now to see someone (with good intentions, presumably) gut a magnificent computer and replace it with an inside of Wintel garbage makes me feel positively violated. Im not dissing, mind you...original and a feat of ingenuity to be sure, but to see those beige panels sticking out of the front of the case was like seeing someone spray-paint eybrows and a beard on the Mona Lisa.

I think next time we should put the guts of a G4 into a VA Linux box just to see what happens.

    Unhappy Aaaaargh!!!!!

    I don't understand... WHY???

The Macintosh G4 is world's most powerful personal computer (and it usually runs the best operating system, MacOS X), why did you put a PeeCee's guts inside it? AAAARGH!!!

And running Windoze on Intel was not bad enough... you have included a FLOPPY DRIVE! Goddamnit, that is stone age stuff! You could at least use an Imation SuperDisk drive, as it can read floppies as well.

Oh, wait, now I understand: you wanted to put the shittiest technology in the most wonderful case, right? Honestly, man, that is AWFUL!!!

There are better things to do with such a pretty case... don't you know the "macquariums"? (http://come.to/macquarium)

Kinda tough to put the guts back together when there was no G4 computr to begin with....All he had was the case. Yeesh.

And about the floppy drive...um...you do know that this was a budget job, right?

    Default Make it clear!!

Hi. Maybee you should make the fact that this was just the G4 case not the entire system that was desicrated a LARGER comment, (eg at the front of the article) to avoid a lot of crap. I agree that for a mac user there is not much fun in using a slow windows machine that looks like a mac (since we already are used to mac designs). But for a PC user i can see the attraction of the job. The front panel needs a fixin tho!
