    Question

Can anyone tell me if the promise ATA100 controller can or should be used to boot a new 7200 rpm ATA100 HD that I am about to install, or should I continue to boot from the old Western Digital 5400 IDE66? Thanks. Mark Schiffman = mschiffman@earthlink.net.

Yes, you can boot from it. I use a ATA100 drive to boot from.

Default OK, i think there is a big problem in this review

OK, i've just read this review, and i am not trying to harm the author, just want to make so comment.
first off, when reviewing things like this type of hardware, u should always use the same harddrive instead of 2 different brand, as it will not truely tells u whether the transfer rate is faster or not.
secondly, as u know, this IBM harddrives uses the glassmedia, and i think it also got a bigger size platter.
which means that even they spin at the same speed, the ibm harddrive would be hell a lot more faster, and it is not for the fact that of the udma100, if u try this ibm harddrive on the ide controller on your motherboard, u will find that the ibm harddrive is still much more faster, which as many sites did review, saying that this ibm harddrive is one of the fastest ide harddrive.
