Explains quite well how I feel about this new toy (no, I will not stop calling it that, that's what it is !)

Although I share an even darker view of it. It really isn't needed in any way, nor will it change how the world works. It's a new gizmo for the rich, and as such, has little to no influence on everyday life.

Sure, it can have it's uses, but most of those envisionned thus far are quite unpractical. Look at the cops on Segways, sure, it makes it easier to just move around, but when shit actually happens, what do you do ? People can run way faster than a Segway can go. If you leave it behind it can be stolen, it's not heavy enough to be stuck on the ground. Plus, I see it as just another way for the police force to let itself go some more. I've seen quite a few policemen that are truly out of shape, I don't like knowing the people that are supposed to protect me are not fit to.

It's a neat toy, but you won't see me on one anytime soon

PS : didint A Guru's World used to be mostly short rants about stuff that irks techno-people ? I mean, the Segway doesn't feel like it fits all that well with what I remember those articles being. Then again, I missed quite a few

There'ye still there for your perusal

As for the direction of AGW....take that up with Jonny . There was a some discussion about this amongst the staff (not in any sort of bad way), but it'd be best to ask Jonny himself.

My first submission to SL was a rant. Dave told me that I couldn't just sit and rant all day, or I wouldn't get the gig. I wrote a second column... it was a rant. Dave told me to write about how people have to have the latest and greatest... I did "No Other Industry" and I got "the job". So really, the 3rd AGW as the first for SL.

Ocassionally I was thrown a bone (Napster, Linux, Comdex, etc) and I'd write a column. But when Dave was too busy to tell me what to do, I'd just rant as a means to vent. I'm not ALWAYS angry, though, which is why there isn't a rant every month and some months there is no AGW column at all.

Segway was something I had interest in, knew about and had some issues with. It also seems that the comic strips found follow the same feelings about the Segway as I!

So to answer Kel's original "PS" question:

    RARELY.

    Sorry

Haven't been around for a while

As for the running, if you just did an armed robbery, I'm sure you'll run at impressive speeds when the police is after you. Not to mention you can jump curbs, go over fences, etc.

You know what... We're here talking about the column and there isn't even a link to the column from the main page. :-p

    Doesn't matter

I read it an enjoyed it.

I didn't mean anything bad with my comment about how it used to be rants I really like this format, I was just surprised at how long it turned out to be.

I swear as soon as I'm done with exams I'll go through past columns, and read those that interest me I'm really trying to come back

If your segway suddenly stops and throws you off, would that be called a seg fault?

Did you see that Amazon is auctioning off the first three Segways (the three used to "introduce" it?)?

I wonder how much they'll go for.
