Link on the frontpage and/or here would be appreciated.

As it is, I can't comment on something I can't read.

I was going to laugh if someone voted for this already seeing that the article is not online yet

I've been waiting for one of these for the past year and can't wait to read all about it tomorrow! These will rock!

Ok.... Now that I've read it....

Maybe it's because I'm an old fart, but it seems you make the whole pen computing out to be brand spanking new.

I mean, sure it's gotten BETTER, but the concept is old. GRiD had pen computers that would operate with a Stylus in the late 80s. Those pen computers because "convertible" into laptops in the early 90s.

It's a great piece, but if you actually had one of these state of the art Tablen PCs, it would be even better!

I don't blame the author, Harish, for this short sightedness. I blame Bill Gates himself. He has a tendency to make us forget the past. We forgot that DOS was CP/M, that Windows was MAC OS, that a mouse was originally found on a Xerox PC... How many of you remember Windows for Pen Computing? It was a version of Windows 2.0. It had handwriting recognition and people could load in Office documents and edit them on their tablet. This was back in 89 people!

Tablet PCs are great. They're more portable as laptops and more veratile as a PDA. If anyone owns both a PDA and a laptop and carries them both together at the same time, they need to be read the riot act, because tablet PCs are the way to go for portable computing!

Those things look neat. Although they are, I'm sure, way out of my price range.

Interesting article, presenting a "new" toy, or reminding us it's in development.

PS : You should check the application section and write Microsoft right (2nd page)

Actually, they're not expensive at all. I wish I had some exact numbers, but....

Because they're not as "powerful" as a laptop (laptops tend to have the fastest mobile Duron or PIII/Celeron) and have more RAM (almost as much as our desktops) and large active matrix screens.

Of course... in my opinion, you don't NEED a 1 GHz CPU and 512MB of RAM in a laptop beause laptops aren't really engineered for the gamer or the guy who's going to compile the newest manual or magazine material in AI (Illustrator sucks the life out of my PC, I sware) at 20,000 feet.

A laptop is to get things done between point A and point B, and I've been able to do such tasks (surf, email and MS Office) on a mere 486 running Linux, so there's no reason why a Cyrix III or Crusoe in a smaller package can't do the same thing for less.

    And it does!

You can get a tablet PC for about $600. Convertibles (tablet with a hidden keyboard) could be had for about $1000. Not bad, eh.

I like the laptop one with the screen that flips...From what I heard, they should be just as powerful as a normal laptop and about the same price....

Even 600$ is too much for me right now

Can't wait to get out of college, get a nice job and have some spending money. See, college around here means you have 30h of classes a week, leaving little to no time for having a part time job and living ... for me anyways.

    1 semester left \o/

    mashie,

Not sure yet, but I know AMDZone is working on a review of one. Go to www.amdzone.com, it's their first news post. They said their review will be up tomorrow.

I'm trying to get in touch with FIC myself to get a unit over here. I'll keep you updated on that.
