    Default Baracuda ATA-IV

Just curious if any one has seen the Storage Review marks on this drive. As it stands today there is no match for Western Digital and the 1000BB-SE. It crushed all other IDE drives. Not even close

Default Barracuda ATA IV way fast

This drive is fast, just plain fast.

Yes, I do read Storage Review also, but they're not the be all end all.. they do a very clean job comparing drives and isolating performance factors -- within their one test bed system. but its true that any drive will perform differently in one system versus another system, say the WD might perform better on one motherboard or adapter card because its more efficient with certain drivers, but it might do worse on another motherboard.

I have the 80GB Barracuda ATA IV and it added so much speed to my system that I never wait for anything anymore, even running multiple apps and editing video. I actually think most drives are so close in real performance that it almost doesn't matter. I got the drive because I heard it was so quiet, and because Seagate drives last so long with their PCB cover and all,... but I can't imagine a faster drive for my system!!

    Default All time DUMBEST comparison

This had to be the all time dumbest compairison I have ever seen in a review! Who gives a shit how it performs against a RAID set... I would so much rather know how it compares VS. A SINGLE DRIVE! While the rest of the review was decent, the comparison just sucks.

Yes I would agree two very OLD 75GXP drives in RAID should not have been the comparison setup. Hell those drives are 15gb\platter versus 40gb\plater on the Seagate. Thats hardly an apples to apples comparison. What would have made a much better comparison is the ATA-IV versus a WD Caviar 1000BB, (Im sorry but the Special Editions 8meg buffer puts it simply in a catergory ahead) and an IBM Deskstar 60GXP. Dont bother with any Maxtor drives.

yeah i definatly think that this wasn't even a comparison! i mean you have to ca\ompare like things...try 2 60gb seagates on raid or try to normal hds on ata. and like this other guy said, don't bother with maxtor's SH!T drives.

What kind of review is this?
How can you draw a comparison between a new product and a reference product, when the reference product isn't even the same thing????
The reviewer has no business even really drawing any of his conclusions based on the comparison he/she made
Geez its like comparing a Corvette to a Concorde Supersonic....

I didn't even get past the first page of the "review" and I was already concerened it was flawed. The reviewer stated "According to Seagate, these drives only emit 2.0 Dba.". NOT TRUE! 2.0 dBA!!!!! Give me a break.

The correct statement is 2.1 BEL. Each BEL = 10 dBA. So the drive emits 21 dBA, not 2.0. Here's the link: http://www.seagate.com/cda/products...81,383,00.html. Look towards the bottom of the page for the information on acoustics.

I'm going to keep reading but I don't have alot of hope...

Firstly, you shoud always COMPARE APPLES TO APPLES.
Second, I'll most likely get myself a 60Gb Seagate Barracuda ATA IV very soon, BUT first, I would like anyone who has had a bad experience with one to notify me. Thanks.
