I happen to disagree with some or your choices.
It seems for most categories you just picked what is popular now vice what had the biggest propularity and longest replay. Also for RPG's Diablo 2:TOB wasn't even mentioned. Maybe you find it doesn't fit rpg's, but then it fits Multiplayer well. Along with the free servers provided by battlenet, diablo is at least a nominee. The FPS of the year is deffinately MaxPayne, but since it was made game of the year, I find that to be better.
BTW: Diablo2 and the expansion out sold all your picks.

Well where can I start? Looks like you picked your winners by throwing darts at a dart board blindfolded.
I could go into detail but I can't be bothered cause somehow I doubt your Game of the Year awards mean anything more than someone having 30mins spare one afternoon and needed anything to fill your blank web space.
How did you come to your conclusions? Any polls done? Nope? dosen't look like it either.
Sad attempt guys. Maybe 2002 you could make an effort if your still here.

Those are some pretty hard words you both throw out there. Dropping the SL Staff Member and looking at Aaron's article objectively, I think he has put together a very good list of candidates for Game of the Year as well as his sub-categories; somethig that's actually hard to do believe it or not.
As far as the Diablo II exp, I have to agree with Aaron's decisions. D2 could either fit in the RolePlaying or Multiplayer categories but even with that said, I still agree that it wouldn't win with the competition that he listed. The other games personally kept my interest well beyond playing the game the first time to the end. Would I pick D2 over Return to Castle Wolfenstein? What about Dark Age of Camelot or Max Payne? Nope.
I don't think this was a sad attempt at all to put together a review nor the opinions of a man who only spent a little time with each game. I am just sorry that you didn't enjoy our views but don't think it was fair of you to take this out on Aaron personally.
Don't get me wrong, I loved D2 ToB and had a really fun time playing it. If there was a category for expansion pack of the year, this would get my vote by far. But there wasn't.
BTW Aaron, it's time to get rid of our dartboard - they're on to us!

I knew when I decided to put this together that I was going to take some serious heat for my choices. If there had been a category for Expansion Pack of the Year, I would have picked D2: LoD, as it was very fun and a good addition to D2. Perhaps that should have been a category. Even if I had thrown it into the RPG (almost fits) category or Multiplayer (almost fits) category, it still would have faced VERY stiff competition to win either.
I stand by my picks. There was a great deal of thought put into each selection, with the article taking many hours combined. I went back and played most of them before finalizing my picks. Civilization III is a wonderful game, but then again so is Empire Earth. IL-2 Sturmovik is an incredible simulation, but then again so is NASCAR Racing 4. Unregistered (the second one ), I'm curious to know what some of your picks would have been. If you want a poll, vote in our 2001 Reader's Choice.
Yes Rob, I'll do that
