What experience do you have of high-end audio? What is the best system you have experience of?

I ask because often people with no idea of what true quality sounds like feel they can accurately review audio equipment.

I have had "experience of" Klipsch's 4.1 and 2.1's, a older set of Altec's but I forgot the model name, and the Altec Lansing 5100's

If your post is because of your suspicion of the editors choice award given- I challenge you to try the system yourself and tell me that you aren't impressed with the sound.

A huge bonus is that the system only costs $180 retail which is $220 less then logitech's z-680's . I don't know about you but $220 isn't pocket change to me.

    Unregistered,

Also, keep in mind a product recieving an editor's choice award doesn't mean it has to be better sounding than a high-end system, but it should be the best or pretty damn good at the price it's at. If it performs similar to systems like the Logitech's or Klipsch's that cost over $200 more fore computer speakers, I would feel that is a pretty hefty thing,

    Question

Where is the subwoofer input? I only see inputs for: front speakers, rear speakers and center speakers, donīt tell me that the subwoofer has no input and it is simulated?

    thanks

    Default Altec Lansing 5100

I purchased these speakers on-line about a month ago for a few reasons. First of all I have always been impressed with the sound of Altec Lansing's computer speakers. I have a set of thier older 4.1 speakers that were really excellent. Since I have a DVD player on my computer, I wanted a sound system that could deliver true surround sound. I read more reviews on this system than I'd care to admit and a good 85% were very positive. The only negatives were from people who were comparing these to much more expensive and powerful systems. I bought these new for $70 plus shipping and couldn't be more happy. The base is loud and unmuddied and the treble is crisp and clear. If these speakers lack in anything it would be the midrange, but not to the point of disapointment. As far as maximum volume is concerned, I have never had mine to the maximum setting(and believe me, I love my music loud)and have never heard so much as a hint of distortion. I defy anybody to find a computer sound system, with a fully functional remote, that sounds and looks this good for a similar price. Just ain't gonna happen my friends.
