Good and clear. Concise and to the point, not too wordy.

Assuming the source is good, how is the quality of capture video compared to ones done using ATI AIW 9700?

    yeah
exactly how i think the card performs
one thing you forgot mension, was teh added bonus of being able to record directly to a chosen codec, ie divx, xvid, which is really cool.
capture quality depends on feed, but for tv, tv capture is perfect
exactly the same as onscreen viewing...

    top card
    must hav

Maybe next time you will make a review you will actually bother and test the quality of sound/images captured from a videocamera. Other reviewers go to greater lengths in showing ALL (or at least as much as they could) of the cons and pros of the product they review. Perhaps you could do an update on this one thank you.

It's a nice review but I consider it incomplete.

Captured from a videocamera?? That's hardly the point of this device. The only videocamera we have to test it with is a Digital Video camera, which you just use Firewire to transmit video to the computer anyways. The point of this card is for television, hence the "TV" in the product name. So, if you're capturing from TV, the quality is hardly that important... television quality is horrible resolution, so it's not like you're going to be putting it into a movie or anything.

Also, Unregistered 2 posts up... I don't see how this would help you... at least I can think of a better way. Choose the color on your PC, and just hook a TV to the TV-Out on your video card, assuming you have one (I'd say 90% of newer cards do). Then you can just see how it shows up in real-time. You need tv OUT, not IN.

yertle, no offense, perhaps you could go to a greater length in explaining to an ignorant individual why they added a video-in and sound-in inputs O_o. I'm almost sure ( I hope, ^_^) those inputs are not there for the single purpose of increasing the price of this card.

I believe the reason is that this was rather designed as a multimedia card - that means it won't act just as a simple TV-tuner. That is my impression about the card. Sure the main point is that it is a TV-tuner but it has some other capabilities that were not explored in the review like capturing video from other sources other than a TV. I personally I am interested in that aspect too and I still stand by what I said before - this review is incomplete.

    Cheers.

I'll field this one, while the TV tuner on the card is there for decoding TV antenna signals, the other video connecters are there to serve those who would like to (or have to) connect with another cable types. The coax connector works for both antenna and cable TV, but if you do not have a coax wire or would like the slightly higher quality of s-video or composite they are also available. Yes they could be used for connecting to non-digital video cameras, as it would be no different than connecting to any other video source.

Capturing video with the WinFast TV program is probably not the best way to capture home videos for editing, and I do not know how well the card would work with something like Adobe Premier for capturing video, but I imagine it shouldn't be a problem. Basically the other video connectors are there to give you options for how you connect your video. Where the video comes from doesn't matter because everything, save for digital, has about the same quality.

I agree though I should have mentioned something about capturing camcorder video, but I had none of the tools to do it: film camera nor Premier so I feel the review is complete as it stands.

All right, thank you for taking the time to reply Matt, I was curious about the quality of the video that you can capture via the S-video conector. Apparently some cards with video-in ports that are using Nvidia chipsets produce a captured image that is darker than the original.

This card doesn't have a Nvidia chipset but as a prospective buyer I was interested in that particular facility that the card offers. I already bought the card so I just hope you were right when you said that the quality of the images captured through this port should be the same .

    Cheers.
