    WAIT BARGAIN SHOPPERS!!!!

Looking for an MP3 player, but for less money than the ULT31576?

Unhappy Just got this for Christmas (by request).

I like the hardware features, but I'm generally disappointed by the UI.

There should be customizable equalizer settings (since only one or two of the preprogrammed ones are even acceptable). The radio UI is just horrible (push up to tune to a lower frequency (and vice a versa), and the previously mentioned preset problem).

Also needs better play list management.

I hope (but I'm not optimistic) that there is a mechanism to upgrade the firmware. (Ideally they would let us open source people hack it (now that would boost sales)).

The firmware of the device is flashable, one can only hope that your "issues", which I would think should be just software issues, would be addressed by a newer firmware.

On a side note, if you're familiar with thumb-drive type MP3 players, you might already know that most of them lack the features that full size MP3 players have. My friend bought a Creative for his wife for X-Mas. Uggh! Battery doesn't last long, isn't rechargable, is twice is large because of the two piece design and the sound is tinny. The only redeeming quality is the Creative's ability to maintain a folder hierarchy so songs can be organized by artist/album.

Default Thanks for the quick post.

Where did you find out about the firmware being flashable? I've been looking everywhere for that kind of information.

Yeah, I like the rechargable battery (and the option to use a normal AAA when I like (though I've noticed that it seems to try to recharge the normal AAA when the USB is plugged in)).

Someone had accidently deleted the built-in email client and instead of just copying the appropriate files back over, had downloaded a flash program from one of the other incarnations this MP3 player is sold as in another part of the world. Didn't fix the missing email client, but did change the "Ultra MP3" welcome screen so it said "Poki-MP3" instead.

Default Where can I get the hardware specification of this MP3 player?

    Hi~

I'm looking for hareware information of ULT31576 but I couldn't find it yet.
There is no specification at www.ultraproducts.com, just features.
I want to know what kind of music file can be supported such as wma, ogg...
    And about bitrate.

Could you let me know where I can find such information?

    Thanks,

The player only supports MP3's. I wish it supported WMA's as well. It will play about any bitrate up to 320Kbps. Why you'd need more than 192, I on't know, but.....

I've made some MP3 with vbr so I wanted to know about supported br. MP3 only supported is not serious but, you know, it's much better if WMA, OGG can be played.
Still I want to get the manual with PDF format. Do you know where it is?

    Thank you for prompt reply.

There's a PDF in the driver ZIP file.

The auto-resume would be nice, since I listen to long programs.

Is it possible to leave the unit on (paused) and resume, or does it automatically shut off after awhile?

I wonder if it would consume very much power while paused for long periods.

Barring auto-resume, can one scan through a track and if so, will it go very fast perhaps depending on MP3 Mbps (mine are 96)?

    Can't scan through tracks.

And when the unit is "paused" it will not shut off. It stays on the same track.

You may save battery life when the unit is paused. That a hard one to guage. It was hard enough to find out that it'll last 8 hours on average.

Yes. I actually did that accidently while playing around with the buttons. Although the sound quality is far from decent. The sample rate of the voice recorder's WAV files is very low.

    Yikes!
    Can't scan through a track?
I was just about to order this unit, but won't if this is confirmed.
    JonnyGuru are you sure/

I have another earlier Ultra MP3 player which works very well and it will scan through a track at a fairly fast clip.

I listen to 3 hr computer talk shows and other long programs with commercials and I need a fast scan through of a track.

    Thanks!

Oops! My bad. The same buttons you use for skip, if held down, also scans. Sorry.
