Confused call of duty demo HELP!!!

ok i heard from like everyone (pc gamer 93%!!!) that this game is wicked awsome, so i installed the dawnville demo from my pc gamer disc. When i opened it, it would show the little CALL OF DUTY thing change my resolution. Then, a window pops up saying that call of duty has encounteered an error and needes to close. I know it's not the pc gamer or dawnville thing--i downloaded the burnville demo and it did the same. i downloaded dawnville multiple times. I even tried disabling my mcaffe firewall/virusscan. the same thing happened. i reinstalled the demos multiple times--no use. does anyone have the same problem? HELLLPPP!!!
fyi, my comp goes as follows:
    amd athlon xp 1700+
    ecs elitegroup k7s5a pro mainboard
256 mb ddr pc 2100 ram
    xtasy radeon 9100 128mb agp 4x

    HEEELLLLLLLLPPPPP!!!!!! thanx

What version of Direct X and Video drivers are you running? Are you using any refresh rate tweak?

Update to the latest DX here and your video card drivers here . If you are using any refresh rate tweak try disabling it.

i have dx 9b, newest one. my vid card driver USED to be catalyst 3.9, but it messed up my card and wouldn't run halo right. also, since my card is not sold by ati (its sold by visiontek), it didn't have the option of installing my exact video card (it went from 8500 to 92000 so i installed the 8500 one. anyway, that didnt work, so i installed the latest visiontek xtasy drivers. i doubt that its the vid card, because the game didnt even load. if it helps, im running win xp professional.

Visiontekís cards based on ATIís reference design so they need special drivers. The Cats should work fine, specifically Cat 3.7 (try those). Use Driver Cleaner to remove any straggling driver components before installing the new ones. Also check for an update driver set for your motherboard. If your card supports fast writes disable it and if you are using a refresh rate fix disable that too.

These are why this has happened to me on my older computer:
    Memory Card not new enough
    DirectX version too old
    specs too low
not compatible with the version of windows.

Check all of those if you are still having this problem. I know this post is old, but later some people might have this same problem.
