Default rt311 router with aol dsl.

    Hello,
I am trying to use my netgear rt311 router with AOL DSL. I am connecting via verizon. I have the encapsulation set for PPPoP(not sure if that is the right abriviation but it is the one for DSL). My question is that when I run the internet conectivity test it says the username and password have failed. I KNOW the password and username are right. I am putting my AOL screen name in there. With the AOL software it works fine. I think what is happening is that it is verizon asking for the username and password NOT AOL. How do I resolve this problem? Thanks alot.

With most routers, you have to fill in the physical site information
as you setup. I.E. for domain don't put AOL, put the I.P.
    address there.
Recheck your setup and make sure that either listed is either
a number set, 193.XXX.XX or an address www.aol.com

This might be your problem. Not for sure.

I just have a question for you. Why would you pay the extra $10 dollars for aol? What does aol provide you that you can't do without? I'm not putting you down; just curious. I have Verizon and was asked if I wanted aol for an extra $10 dollars a month, but didnt see the point. The only benefit I can think of is keeping the email address, but for $10 its just not worth it for me.

True and good point. You can get free email
like Yahoo or hotmail. Why pay for it?

Or you could just use the email you get from verizon.
