well if you want performance, the AMD setup you have there is definitely a better choice. The DDR memory and faster processor will keep you satisfied until the next big upgrade. The athlon is also the cheaper route of the two. The heat issue isn't a big deal as long as you get a proper heatsink/fan and have good air circulation in your case. If you plan to overclock then obviously you'll need a really good heatsink/fan and some premium thermal compound. Make sure your power supply is good enough for the system. DDR is just as cheap as regular PC133 so the price isn't a problem. The only reason I would go with the Intel Solution is because I'm more familiar with Intel systems. I'm a big fan of multiprocessing, so until AMD SMP gets cheaper I'm sticking to dual PIIIs. It's up to what you want and whether or not you're comfortable with the AMD system. I hope that helps...
