11:00 PM
Ahh yes. I have just reformatted my computer. About to install windows when I shut it down to go to bed.
At 7:00 AM
I wake up early to get my computer running again. I run over, and turn on my lovely 15" LCD screen that I am very very proud of. Then I press the power button on the computer. Nothing. Silence. I press it again. I hear the regular rumbling noise. I see the red Compaq logo (about 2 seconds later) when out comes smoke. Whats this? And a few seconds later the computer is off with the convienent pulling the plug methoud. Although pulling the plug is not reccomended, it is something that everyone does when a computer is smoking. I turn back on the computer. Nothing. Again, nothing. After the fifth nothing, I see a pattern developing.
At 7:15 AM
I decide to plug the computer into the wall, instead of the surge protector. I take out all of the ports, so only the power is connected. And I press the button. Nothing. Again, nothing.
Time to call the Tech Support that puts you on hold for 30 minutes and say they cannot fix the problem.
At 7:55 AM
I get off the phone with Compaq. I had to call twice because the man told me to turn on and off the surge protector (I put it back in). That turned out to be a stupid move, as my phone was connected to that. I re-called and I was given a number and told to go to CompUSA. Now this is not good.
At 8:00 AM
I report the news to my parents. After a lot of hugging and crying and screaming, we finally realize the only thing to do is go to CompUSA.
1 1/2 Weeks Later
I am sitting here on my moms computer. My computer remains like it did on the day of the "accident." The room is misty. Cursed. The wind blows heavily. The computer ghost rises and destroys the world! HAHA
This is what some simple re-formatting leads to. This is what it is.
So right now I have no computer. I have obligations. My school website, my network, my homework on the computer. What to do?
The simplest solution would be to build my own (or make Dave, my bro build it for me) and then maybe it wouldn't break. Of course he could make it have a virus. Nothing like a few tricks.

Things breaking
I noticed that when you smack something really hard it tends to break. I had an old crappy 286 computer which was really slow, and didnt even have a hard drive. The sucker only had around 512kb of ram, and to top it off it was one of those 1 piece computers that has the monitor built into it. Well day i got bored and decided i needed to have some fun. So i broke out the old screw driver and started prying off some of those capaciters (probably useless hehe), then I worked my way up to the chips... those were a real pain to get off but eventually they budged and came off. What I learned is that doing this broke the computer and caused it to not work anymore go figure hehe.

Smacking Computers around.
Back in the XT days (before 286) most systems had a Segate ST225x hard drive. (thats a 20megger)
Well dust would get on the spindle (YEAH!! It was exposed) and would cause the hard drive not to spin up at power on.
Some people would SMACK the side of the case to get the disks spinning.
A few of us found it easier and qucker to lift the front of the case up about 4 inchs and DROP it back down.
It worked like a carm... but I age myself heheh
Peace!
