I think ASCII white would play thousands of games of solitair fast, but only a multithreaded version of Freecell or solitair would run faster on a "machine" such as that

you wanna go THAT way, then fine
I wanna wear a small hip pouch that contains a small fusion generator to power the components.
a power glove style device that reads from a vitrual keyboard interpolated from hand motion in air (kinda like what that chick in the FF movie wore), and extra hard controls on the wrist portion of it. (not to mention built in blaster for self defense)
A kick ass pair of raybans with dual HUD units, and a small microphone popping down to catch voice commands.
A palm 5 sized device that interfaces with everything also holding a 10.2 terabyte crystal lattice storage unit
and everything has web access via wireless T3 connection.

I just bought what I consider my dream machine within my
budget. Here are the specs.....
Gateway 6400 Server
DUAL Pentium III 933MHz Processors! FSB 133
Asus CUR-DLS motherboard w/ ServerWorks ServerSet III LE chipset
1GB(!!) PC133 Registered ECC SDRAM (expandable to 2GB)
2 each, 9GB Ultra160 7200rpm SCSI hard drive
48x IDE CD-ROM
Seven PCI Slots: (2)64-bit and (5)32-bit
Integrated Dual Channel Ultra160 SCSI
Integrated 4MB ATI Rage-XL
Integrated Intel 10/100 Ethernet
Keyboard, mouse, 1.44MB floppy
Lockable Mid-Tower case with 300W and 9 drive bays
I will upgrade the hard drives to 18 gig each and try to install 1 gig processors once I recieve this machine. I'm looking forward to having some fun. And the price was right, brand new in the box for $800. Can anyone match that price?

rstarr: Yeah. I bought the same 6400 Server from Gateway for $500 but with only one 933 CPU and 1 stick of 128MB. I sold the 933 and bought two 600EB CPUs. The video is OK at best and there is no AGP slot to upgrade with. I'm ending up selling the computer to my work for a mild profit.
I suppose the extra CPU and the added RAM actually ads up to being worth $800 (compared to my $500. It's still a sweet deal).

My dream machine... hmmm. In semi-general terms:
Antec SX1480B server cube case with built-in coffeemaker
Dual AthlonMP processors
Tyan Thunder K7 motherboard, or something similar with more tweakability
3Gb DDR RAM (I hit a peak memory usage of over 1600Mb the other day... half of it being virtual memory )
Ultra160 SCSI RAID5 with those new Seagate Cheetah X15-36LP's
DVD-RAM drive
CD-R/RW drive
CD-ROM drive
Three 3.5" floppys in RAID5 (ok, not really )
ELSA GLoria DCC primary video card
ELSA Gladiac 511PCI secondary (dual-monitor)
Three 18.1" Planar LCD monitors and a real big desk
Creative Labs SBLive or something
Wireless headphone setup
3Com 3CR996-T 10/100/1000 NIC
IBM click-clack keyboard
Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer
Wacom Intuious 12" x 9"graphics tablet
Microsoft Win2k Pro/Win98SE dual boot
Microsoft Office XP
Caligari trueSpace 5
Discreet 3D Studio Max
Microsoft SoftImage
Newtek Lightwave 3D 5.5 (now you see why I want all that RAM)
That would be a great setup for some 3D modelling, which is a hobby of mine. I have a dual-P3 733 that's been calculating radiosity for the last 14 hours in trueSpace 4.3, and it's only 40% done, so I'd love to have a dual-AthlonMP to speed this up a bit.

Okay, I don't recall if I've actually done this yet.....
/m shrugs
Whatever the fastest Dual Athlon MP is.
The most expensive server-based motherboard.
The most ram that can be stuffed into it.
Probably the Radeon 8500, and have it run two 19-inch LCD displays. I think I'd have a G400Max (maybe a G550, I'm not sure) run two 17-inch displays, if it has a PCI version. Well, the best PCI "dual-head" type display card.
Fiber Channel Hard drives (hehehe, mechBgon, I think you know what I'm talking about ). Probably in Raid 0+1 or 1+0 (I'm not sure yet ).
Um.....I'm not too big on sound cards, or speakers, so I'd probably go with like, a Santa Cruz or something, and then add in a Kilpseck (spelling?) speakers. Something with a nice sub-woofer, and high quality, but small satelite speakers.
Um.....some high-quality network card. Not sure which one though....
12x10x32x SCSI burner (does one such as this exist?)
Slot loading dvd drive (unsure of which one yet).
I think HP came out with a DVD RAM + (the kind that can write to either DVD writing standard, well, whichever becomes standard).
Um....I'll update as I think of it
