I have a maxtor 7200rpm hard drive. my question is when you defrag the hard drive and you set the virtual memory to zero should there be any permenant data in the begining of the drive.

I thought the boot sector was at the beginning of the drive. I would think that would be permanent data. If you are referring to the clusters that do not get moved when you watch the drive defrag in windows, I remember seeing permanent ones at the beginning. May I ask why you are wondering? I doesn't hurt anything.
