I have a Ms Intellimouse Optical, and when I use a mousepad with a surface that is white, it goes crazy. I'm just wondering if anybody else has this problem.

    thanks

    Hi,
I have the Intellimouse Optical. I just use it right on my desk and I have had no problems. I have heard of some people having trouble when using it on reflective surfaces, which is what I bet is happening with the white. Try it just on the desk or on a darker mousepad.

I'm intrigued after reading the posts. I know that some of these pulsing-light mice recommend that the use not use a reflective surface. I was wondering if I should upgrade my mouse but now I'm not certain.

Here's my question: Are all of you using the USB connection or a PS/2 jack? I'm wondering if the sudden jerky movements are too fast when coupled with the optical mouse when the bit transfer rate of PS/2, which I believe is 8 bits/sec, is used (maybe it's 16 bits/sec, and serial connections are 8 bits/ sec. I'll have to recheck that). I know USB is much much faster than that.
Are you all using PS/2 or USB?

I use USB w/ my Intellimouse Explorer, and actually do notice this now and then.. (thogh it does go away to an extent after i move to a surface that isn't my shiny desk.. )..

The best pad I have found which works with an Intellimouse is the hard ,back plastic Everglide pads from www.everglide.co.uk

i had a Logitech mouse. Because of the curvature of the left mouse button being so high in the air. my index finger would react to it as a "LETS BANG DOWN HARD ON THE BUTTON" reaction and well i ruined that $60 mouse in a 3 months

On the systems I had a Intellimouse Explorer hocked to I found a rather nasty disadvantag to using USB. Hocked to USB caused about 10% more CPU usage than on the PS2 port. Has anyone else seen this??

I haven't noticed (or been able to attribute the slowdown to that specifically..), but that would make sense..

    I'll check for that tonight..

I havent noticed any slow down in performance with it being usb either. I'm starting to wonder if i should just disable usb in the bios since its becoming more and more useless. I wonder if that would free up more resources and cause my system to run more smoothly..

That's a good idea.. since the mouse is really the only thing I use USB for.. (and there is no outstanding reason for me TO be using usb as opposed to ps2..)

Anyone have any technical insight as to how this would actually effect system performance?
