    i was shopping at
    http://www.outsideloop.com/
    and i saw this ata 100 20 gig hard drive
    I was wondering. what does 75GXP mean?
    IBM Deskstar 75GXP 20GB ATA100

    It is my understanding that 75GXP is just a model number for that line of drives. All of the Deskstar ATA100 drives are of the 75GXP variety.

    That is correct, 75GXP is the model number. Before I knew, I thought all the 75GXP's were 75GB drives, but then I saw a 30GB 75GXP, it's all clear now

    I think the 75 signifies the maximum size for that particular model, since all the models in the series use the same platters/head configurations, just more platters for each drive. They don't offer anything larger than a 75GB model. Similarly with the Deskstar 14GXP, they went as large as a 14GB.

    If you want a good image source though, you might wanna start grabbing the images from HardOCP's Babe Thread...Actually, some of them came from the same place that those HalfNakedBabe pictures came from, so it's not like anyone would really care, I bet...

    This hard drive is only one inch thick for all sizes up to the maximum 75Gb. ATA100, 8.5 m second seek time and it came first place in a hard drive roundup by PCPro (England). www.pcpro.co.uk - another one is www.pczone.co.uk
