I believe the Palomino chipset will be able to do dual Athlons......That comes out first quarter 2001, so sometime in the next few months.

    Question

I thought all athlons could support SMP with the appropriate mobo support?

Yeah but you need a motherboard/chipset that can do it

Palamino is a chipset that can support SMP with Athlons.

Erm, i heard that AMD's (the actual chips) diden't support SMP natively?

Which is Y they were gonna bring out a new chip the same time as the 770?

This may be rumours..but i think i heard that they were bringing out large L1 & L2 cache'd Chips Specifically for SMP...Mustang i think they were called

An the 770 is dual yeah?? But only dual?
    how about Quad?

Isn't Palomino is the name for the next build of the Athlon CPU?
Mustang was cancelled two roadmaps ago.

    Default Huh? 770?

Maybe I'm just a bit behind, but I thought the AMD SMP support was going to be launched in 2Q 2001, under the AMD 760MP chipset. They've already demoed working models, and I'm pretty sure Tyan and Gigabyte have final models in production right now, just itchin' to be shipped.

Man...that Tyan board looked *sweet*...And when I saw the photos and all for this, it was still called the 760MP...

    As Darth_Vader said...

Palamino is NOT a forthcoming mb chipset, it is the
next build of the Athlon cpu wich has been rebuilt and
optimized for less power consumption. It is told that
it should begin at 1.5 Ghz and use socket a.

There's a company in sweden at work on an 8-way processing motherboard, with 12 rambus channels (amd has a rambus license - dunno about these guys though). Sweet stuff.
