Default connecting two pcs without a switch

    hi guys
i recently witnessed two pcs on a LAN that had no switch or hub and they were connected through their network cards.
i didn't get too close, but i wonder if anyone might have an idea how to go about doing this?

The hardest part about doing this is finding something called a "crossover" cable. It looks like your standard CAT-5 cable (because it is). The only difference is that the wires are crossed, hence the name. Having one of these connected between your two computers will accomplish what you are trying to do. Also, don't forget to choose a common protocol like TCP/IP or NetBEUI on each computer!

Let me know if you would like more detailed information - I would be glad to help!

    hi
thanks for the reply i noticed that the person who did it used a standard CAT-5 apparently he crossed the wires before crimmping them
if only i can get the sequence i think i can give it a try
can you help with the wire arrangement?

    thank you guys
i have another question is it possible that running network cables in the same conduit with electric cables can cause interfearence of any kind ?
say like slowing down browsing speed or other computers being unable to log on to LAN

Yes and no. Standard CAT-5 cable will be subject to electrical interference so if this is what you are using, stay away. However you can invest in some heavily shielded CAT-5 to do what you are asking but it is very expensive.

Do a search in Goolge for both cat-5 and EMI if you want more information.

    yes
sorry about the silence i found out that the signal was dropping
i then decided to try adding an old hub that i had, to connect to the remote pc
    and bingo

i should add that between the switch and hub i used a crossover patchcord after the straight through failed to work
