Boot up problem
Hi,
My problem is that when I turn on my computer, the windows 2000 screen does not come up, then I reset the computer manually and everything works fine. The only thing I did different is that I flashed my computer BIOS to the latest version. I am using an ECS K7S5A motherboard and I have 256 MB of Samsung PC2100 memory.
Any help appreciated.

Try and flash your BIOS to version before the latest.

Hi,
I flashed it before to the latest version and even in Win2K were appearing to all kinds of weird errors, then I realized that I flashed my motherboard with a BIOS version that has no onboard LAN, I flashed it with the correct version and everything works fine now.
Thanks.

I'll tell you your origonal problem...
The K7S5A has a little cold boot problem. When you first boot the chipset cold it causes problems, and by the time your press restart, the northbridge is warm enough to work correctly.

Glad to be back. Keep in mind my main forums are still NetSmog ( http://www.netsmog.net). I'm also a moderator there, so it shall always be my main forums. I suggest anyone else sign up there too. Now enough plugging for me
I bet one of the bios patches upped the voltage on the NB a bit to give it a little heat boost
I have the Same motherboard, before I got it I researched the hell out of it

Hi,
Thanks for the replies. It appears that my motherboard still has that 'cold boot' problem', as sometimes I have to hit reset for it to boot normally. When I installed my new Athlon XP 1700+ on the motherboard, I accidentally installed the memory backwards, I turned off the computer inmediately, and when I took out the memory it smelled like smoke, could this be the cause of my problem? I have no stability problems, but this 'cold boot' problem have not happened to me before.
Thanks.

Hi,
To update on my situation, I discovered the real problem, the motherboard won't post unless I set the memory and cpu clock to 100 mhz, it won't post to 133 fsb no matter what I do. I checked this with two different sticks of memory, and the times the computer does post to 133 mhz fsb, it wont restart or even reset.
Thanks.
