Question hard disk: volume and speed?

Is there any down side of a hard disk with:

    1. larger volume?

    2. higher speed(rpm)?

Just the price maybe. Also faster (rpm) drives tend to have a slightly higher failure rate, depending on the manufacturer.

Also take note that if you are getting SCSI...like 15,000 RPM...it will get very hot....May want to consider a hard drive fan.

Otherwise don't go lower than 7,200 RPM. Other than that, Dan has said what needs to be said.

SCSI is too pricey for me anyway... I will be happy when I can grab 2 of those 100GB WD Special Editions with the 8mb cache for my raid... I will (hopefully) be putting SCSI's to shame.

There's an interesting article at cnet about hard drives. It might be worth a read. Behind the numbers
