Default ATI 8500 vs Visiontek ti4200?? help!

I am wondering which video card i should buy

    ATI 8500 128mb Price : 289$ CDN
    or
    Visiontek gforce4 Ti4200 128mb Price : 325$ CDN

The problem with the visiontek gforce4 card is it will only be coming out the 30 of this month and no compagni want to confirm the date, it was first due for the 12 then the 19 of this month, so i am wondering if i should wait for it.

Also what is the difference in performance of each of those card, so i can make my mind.
( i am not an expert in computer yet... )
also carmack from eidos is suggesting ati for doom3....
EDIT: do you think i will be able to play doom3 with the ATI 8500? or newest game?

Edit (again ) : What new stuff will the ati 9700 bring, and is it worth it even if my motherboard doesn't have agp8x
also the ati 9700 have suppost for opengl 2.0
Also have pixel shaders and vertex programs programmables at 100%
is it worth waiting for it?
this is all stuff i heard or read and figured it out. ( i could be misstaking )

I would buy the geforce... the 4200's performance is better than that of a radeon 8500 and it has the nice features such as infinate fx2 etc etc....

I didn't think that they even finalized the OpenGL2 standards until after this card (9700) was released...

    Any ideas??

I have an 8500 64mb Radeon and I really like it. It seems to keep pace pretty well with the Ti4200, and the Analyzer shows the Ti4600 to be only 13% faster.
So the choice and the price are yours. Personally, I'd go for an 8500LE for $149 and raise the clock to 275 w/Rage 3D tweak 3.3 and have at it. With the new Catalyst drivers 2.1 (don't get 2.2 unless you have XP svc pk 1)that performance climbed 300(driver only) points for my card, putting me @ 7504 3d 2001se score with My Cele 1200 clocked at 1416 and Rage 3d tuned to 2001 settings. My score prior was around 6900 @ 1260 with no tweak.
The Radeon is allowing me more headroom now than ever before because of Catalyst drivers.
    System won't kick past 1456 though....shame.

You can find Catalyst 2.1 (6094) under 'Previous Display Drivers' on the same page you downloaded the 2.2 from.
