    Question noisy hard disk?

When a computer run noisily, is it coming from the hard disk or from anything else?

In my case, my hard drive is quiet. I can hear it working sometimes, but it's not what I would call noisy. My computer noise comes from the 80mm fans over my cpu and front intake. The power supply fan is actually pretty quiet. Occasionaly, my dvd-rom will make a lot of noise too. I really hate when I can hear the cdrom miss, and hear a clanking/grinding sound.

My computer is relativly quiet. I think a lot of people have such noisy fans they cannot hear the hard drive.

Is there any way to know what brand of hard disk is quiet?

I'm sure we can dig up a review or two for you but it is all relative. What do you consider noisy? Personally, I have a Maxtor ATA-100 hard drive that is very quiet for me - it's my fans that make a lot of noise. Sometimes I wish my hard drive made a little more noise especially when I think my computer has locked up

My computers are in my bedroom.

I am pretty sure it was the disk since it hummed like an old hard disk although it's about one year.

    Default re: disk noise

After I retested, I found out the noise came from the computer but not the disks.
