    Default Power Suply

Well as PC MAGAZINE says, the power suply is the most not thought about component in a pc. I designed a computer I am going to build then realized, I jneed a power suply. I am probably going to be buying things from www.pcpowerandcooling.com I know nothing about power suplys, anyone want to tell me what to look for. my computer is going to probably need a lot of power, and I want to spend whatever is necessary but not over $100 dollars, unless that is what is neeed

depends entirely upon the processor you wish to use. AMD or Intel PSUs vary in requirments. amount of ram, number of harddisks, type of graphics cards. details.

I would have to say if you were building a power system using the latest parts (such as a XP 2400 or 2600, a GF4 Ti, Radeon 9700, or a P4 over 2.26), you should get at least a 400W. I know my computer has a 340W with a XP 2200+ and a GF4 Ti 4600, but you never know, espessilly if you plan on overclocking.

    well
im thinking about overclocking, but i wont mess with any of those kits, only the switches on the motherboard. I am going to use a pretty top line video card and sound card and a pentium 4 2.4 ghz. Ok so 400 watt sounds good

LOL They dont even list mine... I guess 660W is enough for my system... Those prices look a little steep to me though.

Ok on pcpowerandcooling, if that is where you prefer to buy the power supply from, I followed the link you posted and here is what I choose for YOUR system.
    1. Single CPU motherboard
    2. Home
    3. ATX
    4. Quiet Environment
    5. Mid Tower Case
    6. 256MB or more ram
    7. 2-3 Hard drives (cd-roms count with this)
For those answers they recommended a 275watt Silencer Power supply for 63.75. This seems a little small for newer systems. I can hardly remember the last person I met within the last year and a half that had less than 300watts. Also 275watts for $63.75? Seems a little steep.
With prices the way they are and compents requiring the power they do (with people running multiple cd-rom's, hard drives etc..) I would at least do 350watts, But really 400watts would be the most bang for you buck!! And if you can stay away from pcpowerandcooling. Try www.pricewatch.com first or even www.tcwo.com
