Default Athlon XP 2000+ -Major problems

    Hi all,

Just bought a retail Athlon XP 2000+ so that I could use my old Athlon XP 1600+ in a second system I'm building. Running an Abit KG-7 RAID mainboard, lots of toys, latest BIOS, very stable. If I put in the XP 2000+, everything goes to hell in a handbasket. Windows XP locks before fully booted, or gets blue STOP errors, every time I boot back up, CHKDSK finds crosslinked files and incorrect filesizes, etc. I'm running an Enermax 430w PS, so that should be okay. I set my RAM timings ultra-slow, scaled back my AGP settings to 2x with fast writes off, turned off caching the system and video BIOS, and turned of IDE block mode and prefetch, still nothing. I've tried both using my Alpha 6035 HS/Fan, and the retail AMD hs/fan (which I don't think is as beefy, but clips tighter), temperature doesn't seem to be getting out of hand. Even underclocked the bus to 100MHz to see if that solved the problem, and it does not. Cannot even boot in safe mode with the 2000+ in, put the 1600+ back in, all fine.
Anything I haven't tried? Possible that I actually got a CPU with problems (I know bad cpu's are rare)? Appreciate any help y'all could offer.

Actually, I figured it out, it was kind of odd.

The Abit KG-7 RAID mainboard supports ECC memory, which I was using. One of the memory modules was failing, but the ECC was keeping it working reliably...turn off ECC, and everything goes wonky.

When I went to my ASUS A7V8X mainboard, being a KT400 chipset instead of AMD's 760, it didn't support ECC RAM, and so it ran my DDR modules, but with ECC off. Instant problems. I called Crucial and got the offending module replaced, and everything is now fine. Was truly a pain in the rear to figure out though.
