Problems with the AI61 motherboard
I began having problems with the AI61 right off the bat. It gave me all kinds of problems whenever I tried to load Windows 98SE, by the way no other operating system would load, Shuttle knew this, and would not accept any other browser except IE 4.0.Every attempt to load any other operating system or internet browser would lock and then crash the CPU. Two service people checked it out and suggested flashing the BIOS. I went to the Shuttle web site and downloaded the newsest BIOS they had(2 years old)and flashed but the same problem. I wrote Shuttle support and was told to call their toll free number for help. I called and explained and they said yes they were aware of all the problems I stated. They said they had a new BIOS that would fix all the problem. Great I said!!!!.....it cost $80 they said. What!!! I said. $80 plus shipping they said. That's like buying a new car and then having the engine die the next day and the car company says too bad, so sad. Too bad Shuttle said and left me spinning in the wind. So if you have any problems you will know before hand that this is the support you can expect from Shuttle. You buy a product the company knows is defective and then they charge big bucks for the fix. Another case of the computer industry screwing the paying public.
Strengths:
No strengths. Mediocre board and chip with many working flaws that cost a lot to fix.
Weaknesses:
Made with many system flaws that cause spending big bucks to fix.
Similar Products Used:
A two by four with a Pentium chip nailed to it.
