Default Help me choose a sound card

I've decided I want to watch dvd's in Dolby Digital, so I need a six channel sound card. I've narrowed it down to these 2: Turtle Beach Santa Cruz or the Hercules Fortissimo III. I like the idea of 7.1 sound upgradeabliity, but I like very little noise in the sound. Any reccomendations?

Audigy 2 OEM, but of those 2 I had the Santa Cruz and it's pretty good. Don't know about the Fortissimo.

I recommend the TurtleBeach SantaCruz DSP. Its a bit more $$, but the sound quality is phenominal. I especially like the different sound effects you can create with sound using their control panel.

In the case of just these two i'd say TurtleBeach. But in general i would recommend the SB Audigy 2 (also has a control pannel to change surround moods and calibrate your speaker system etc, the usual stuff). It has very good sound quality (also the midi) and control options.

Thanks for the responses. I went with the Hercules Fortissimo III due to a rebate. The noise is minimal. Noticable in comparison to my old Aureal, but soon it was negligable. My HTPC idea didn't go so well. I discovered that my tV's inputs are broken.

I notice that most people on forums and in person in general tend to recomend Sound Blaster. It's interesting because they appear to have lower quality and always cost more. About twice as much as other cards. And even after having someone give me a Live! card, I still think people are paying for ads and name brand, not quality.

I don't use SoundBlaster, I use the AC97 onboard sound...I do have a Audigy 2 for testing and stuff, but it's not normally being used...
