In WinMe, it only seems to happen when I'm scrolling up and down in Internet Explorer. In Win2k, it happens both in IE and Outlook Express. I think it happens when scrolling in other programs as well. However, it doesn't freeze in games. I have a T-bird 1100, Asus A7V, CL Annihilator Pro, MS Explorer Mouse (silver), 256 (128x2)HSDRAM, SBLive! Retail, 3COM 5610 OEM 56k modem. It didn't used to do this when I had my P3-750 & Asus P3B-F setup. It'll freeze just a few minutes into surfing, or after playing for hours with no probs, then when I surf (usually when I have 2 or more windows open). I'm guessing it's either a video, memory, or mouse problem. I've tried clocking the ram down to 100mhz, and still the same thing. I'm gonna try a different video card and mouse hopefully soon. But do u guys have any clue as to what's going on?

I closed down a memory freer/defragger called MemTurbo2, and have since had no freezes. I'm going to write the author to see if I can confirm my suspicions.

Now I'm not so sure. I uninstalled it, and today I froze up. I'm now starting to think it could just be my videocard or my memory, or maybe my motherboard is unstable. It did report my 32mb video card to having 16mb, until I reset the the config. Maybe that was the problem.

Its actually a problem with the A7V. I was compleltly frustrated with this same issue udner 2000 and ME. After ruling out EVERY hardware and software problem by replacing parts with friends' systems, I relized that ASUS isn't very friendly with new OS's. To stop the crashing, all you need to do is disable 'Dimm Interleave' in your BIOS settings. Everything should be fine after that...if not, AMD & MS both have some patchs that may help.

That makes complete sense. Cuz I've tried lots of stuff with no luck. None of this happened until I got my new motherboard and processor. I had replaced my processor for other reasons, and still the same thing. I kept thinking that was the problem, but I didn't see how the motherboard was doing this. Thanks for the tip dude.

I wonder if this would be a problem if I had only 1 stick of ram? DIMM Interleave does what exactly?

I have a single stick of 256MB PC-133, running at 133Mhz. I tried running it at 100Mhz, but to no avial, same system crashes. I'm not exactly sure what Dimm Interleave is, but it works. As well, I don't see much decline in system performance, so it can't be very important (unless someone else knows different..)

Well, I updated the bios for the A7V (goto the taiwan ftp site). It's version 1005a or something. Up from 1004d. I've been running flawlessly from then on.
