Well I gave it a try and it worked out with no problems at all. Here is a link if anyone is interested in giving it a try. I put the ORB on my KT7A-Raid northbrige chipset, but I am sure it will probably work the same for some other mobos as well.

How does it do performance wise? Anyway you can get some temp readings for us?

Yeah, I'd like to see a comparison between this and the Tennmax Lasagna cooler. The Lasagna looks like it'd do just fine, and it has a much less obtrusive form factor. The BLORB would certainly be better for video chipsets, though.

I didnt gain anything by installing the orb on the northbridge chipset. While I was at it I also installed heatsinks on anything else that got hot. The southbridge chipset and the mosfet things for the voltage supply to the mobo. I havent tried to tweak my system much because I havent had much free time. Its stable as a rock at 10x140 though. After I get my racecar together I will try to do some more tweaking to my system. All my extra money is going to the car at the moment.

well, at the very least you added to the "Coolness" factor of your system, hehe.

I had to mod out the Blue Orb to fit the Epox 8K7A+. The stock HSF on the chipset was an Aavid. The numbers from the mod? An drop of 1 degree. But, I then followed a guide I found elsewhere, cannot remember where, and put the fan from a Silver Orb into the Blue Orb. The increased fan speed led to a drop of another 2 degress. Currently the board runs out at 22C idle and 27C full load.
Would I do it again. No.

Heh...why not?
Seriously...does anyone have some performance numbers of a Lasagna vs. a Blue Orb? Or is this gonna be something I have to do myself? I've always liked my Lasagna...

Here's a why for you....
If a stock fan on a Biostar M7MIA with adequate thermal compound can pull of 150 MHz FSB... why bother?

Because the Blue Orb and the Lasagna are also useful coolers for chips BESIDES the Northbridge, such as video cards and others.

But we're not talking about using it on video chipsets. We're talking about using it on Northbridges.

cutriss...ask and ye shall recieve
Blue orb wins, But if you buy one Lap the base of the Blue Orb, as they are notorious for not being flat.
http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews...tennmax_2/1.htm
ps the Lasagna hsf's make excellent Mobo chipset coolers due to the size, usually you can fit one behind a slot 1 cpu, if you have a socket get a orb, OR
Now if your hardcore and want to affix a beefy Socket 7 heatsink to your video card, try this:
Try this with Arctic Silver thermal adhesive:
Simply mix up as small portion using part A and part B then add a ratio of 1/3 regular Arctic Silver to the mix
http://www.arcticsilver.com/images/as2a2.jpg
Then place the thermal adhesive 'blend' on 4 corners of the item your about to affix and use regular AS2 on the rest of the surface area, should you ever decide you want to remove the heatsink, removal is easy.
Many people use superglue on the corners and thats just nuts, Radio Shack also sells Thermal adhesive you can use on the corners.
