Macworld starts tomorrow, if you have been to Apple's homepage you have seen things like this:
1 day to Macworld San Francisco. Just one more sleepless night.
Count the days. Count the minutes. Count on being blown away
This one is big. Even by our standards
Now if that isn't hype, I don't know what is. If you remember last years Macworld, many were dissapointed as nothing really big happened. This year Apple is turning that around and causing a huge stir around the media.
So what exactly is going to be so big, and why create this huge frenzy? Well, nobody is sure yet, but there are some theories.
The first, which is the most popular, is that Apple will release a flat-panel iMac. Why would we think that? Last month 2 analysts for Morgan Stanly reported that Apple made orders for certain components that could produce 100,000 flat-panel iMacs per month. On the other note,

Although Apple often discounts old products before releasing new ones, it has not recently chopped the prices of its desktop or laptop models. In fact, a rebate on several iMacs ended Dec. 31 and was not extended. A rebate of up to $500 on the Power Mac with the purchase of a flat-panel monitor has been extended through the end of January.

A couple other rumors have circulated such as a Windows version of the iPod MP3 player.
Whatever it is, this should all definitely help Apple in my opinion. First of all,
if it is a Windows version of the iPod, it is predicted that it could generate about $300 million in sales for the 2002 year. That's pretty impressive, but so is the white MP3 player that has caused such a stir. Take a look at our
Staff Holiday Picks 2001 article, Paul chose the iPod and that was my next one on the list, and we're not even Mac users.
Should it be a flat-panel iMac, I think it will be even better. Do you remember how much of a stir the iMac's caused? It was huge, and now 40% of Mac owners are iMac owners. Depending on the price of a flat-panel version, it could go VERY well for the company. Not only that but it should also help flat-panel's come down in price and become more popular as it slowly takes over the old CRT's.
Now imagine if Apple released BOTH things at Macworld. It could get pretty interesting. Aside from that, there are even more rumors, so it may even be something else! Either way, I can't wait until tomorrow to see what the hype was all about.
What do you think it may be and do you think it will be worth the hype? Post your comments and let us know your thoughts.
