3GB On A Floppy Disk
Nano Cubic technology developed by Fuji Canada could soon give the aging floppy disk a second wind. They claim that with this in place, 3GB could be put onto a single floppy disk, or a terabyte onto a data cartridge or digital videotape, as quoted by The Inquirer.
We have not yet been able to determine what compatibility these floppy disks will have, or what transfer rates will be like. But as others have pointed out, Fuji will have a difficult time promoting their technology to home users if it takes 24 hours to fill the disks to capacity.
Pricing will obviously also be a major issue. DVD-RAM and DVD-RW technology is becoming better and cheaper, so there will be stiff competition.

I see definate advantages. Very cheep, if you don't have to buy a new drive. And think of those times you're at a computer with only a floppy drive, and you want to just transfer 2 to 10 megabytes, or more if you are willing to wait.
I think I will buy at least one disk.

Think of dumbasses that would use that as a backup system. I'm sure you've all heard horror stories about floppy treatment. CDs are generally more respected by Mistar Everybody.
Using a thumb tack or magnet to hold a floppy on a vertical surface is not unheard of. Having (L)users destroy 3gigs at a time that way is a scary prospect !
But in the hands of educated users, these things would be marvelous

I don't see how the transfer rate could be improved without a new drive. I mean, isn't the head in a floppy drive and the data transfer cable quite slow? If transfer rates don't improve, what use is 3GB of available space?
