Default Brad McQuaid, Jeff Butler Create Development Startup

Brad McQuaid and Jeff Butler made their names while working together on the MMORPG, EverQuest, but are now taking their talents elsewhere. After resigning from their respective positions last year, they have formed an unnamed game development corporation. Not only that, but their first MMORPG title is presently in the works. We have yet to find more details on other members of the company or the status of the project.

While with Verant Interactive and later Sony Online Entertainment, McQuaid was the co-designer of EverQuest, Butler was the producer. Sovereign, PlanetSide, and Star Wars: Galaxies are among some of the other titles under the belt of McQuaid, although Butler also had an integral role in the creation of three expansion packs for EverQuest: The Shadows of Luclin, The Scars of Velious, and The Ruins of Kunark.

Lets just hope this latest venture of theirs won't be as buggy =)

(I doubt it could be any MORE buggy)

I actually never played the original EverQuest without expansion packs. I take it that bugs made the experience less than perfect?

    Red face

It's a great game (no doubt about it- spent a couple of years on it etc etc), but some of the bugs it has are terrible!

Each expansion they've "bolted" an extra set of game zones with a new and updated graphics engine on- so if you go from one of the original game zones into one of the expansion zones your machine slows down etc.

Their latest expansion they raised the minimum specs to somthing like PII 400, 256MB Ram (plus of course you need nearly 2GB HD space to contain the entire game), directx 8.0, Windows 98 or higher (so it no longer supports win95 machines), oh yeah and a 16mb (I think it was) graphics card.

This left a lot of players out in the cold (me having to fork out for another 128mb of ram over christmas to play *one* game was not a very fulfilling experience).

They rushed the latest expansions' release so that nothing worked (for instance, I had little black boxes around everything when I first came to play it), zone time for me with just 128mb ram was like 10 mins, they had somthing like a 1.2mb patch to download nearly every 2 days for just under a month after it's release.... and the list goes on ^_^

Great game though, split many a RL marriage up so it has =)

    sorry about that [\rant] =)
