    Smile Some AMD teasers....

This may be old news to some of you, but for those who are just waiting with baited breath for the Thoroughbred to come out using AMD's it's .13u copper process....

When coworkers go to lunch with AMD employees, much is to be learned (why couldn't I be the one to go to lunch?!?)

This inside information revealed to us that the current .18u Palomino will be released in a model 2200+ (1800MHz?) in this quarter and that the Thoroughbred will likey be available with varying cache levels, much like a Xeon is available in 1MB to 2MB cache in Intel's line up. The Thoroughbred die is capable of implimenting 2MB of on-die cache. Whether or not this much cache will be offered on a particular CPU, like Intel's 900 MHz and up Xeons, remains to be seen.

Of course, Thoroughbred should be available in Q2 of this year and in the form of a 2500+ (2 GHz?). Sources also state that the CPUs will take advantage of a 333 MHz FSB (PC2700 DDR).

    W00T!

The reason for the ?s is that the PR ratings have a tendecy to throw me.

Ok.... When I posted this, I had no idea that there was similar news on the Inquirer. The coworker I spoke of actually went to lunch the day before the Inquirer news post. I didn't post it until Friday because I had no time during the week to do it.

Apparently, AMD had some "controlled leakage" around the globe. Whomever the source, the fact remains the same (and the stories seem to be consistant)... AMD is up to some serious shiznit in Q2!

FYI: The link to the Inquirer post is here: http://www.theinquirer.net/17010207.htm

As long as my Socket A motherboard is compatible with that 2200+ Palomino, I'm pleased as punch

    Default So Quarter2?

So what you're saying is that the AMD Thoroughbreds won't be available till April at the earliest despite AMD's roadmap saying sometime in the 1st Quarter?

    That makes me sad

I was so looking forward to upgrading to a T-Bred but since i'm in serious need (p2 450), I guess i've gotta go with the XP 2000.
