    Default Bill Gates: "Trust Me"

Like Microsoft or not, this article has to make you stop and think a little. Bill Gates, chairman of the software juggernaut Microsoft, has decided earlier this week to put increased emphasis on software security and more trustworthyness as he put it.

So what are they planing on doing to help cope with their security problems? Well, for starters, all of their 7,000 plus programmers will stop writing code on their new OS under development and attend a special seminar on computer security. From there, they will focus their attentions on security holes found inside of their current products and attempt to repair them.
    Quote:
As the world's largest supplier of personal computer software, Microsoft has increasingly been criticized in recent years over the design and security of its products. Last September, for example, a stinging report from the Gartner consulting firm called on corporations to replace the Microsoft Internet Information Server, known as I.I.S., immediately because of successful attacks on the product by several malicious programs, like the Nimda worm.
Why this gave me a chuckle is due to the fact that there have been OS breeches since Windows first arrived in the early 80's and aside from their programmers scrambling to correct each vulerability, has done little to prevent these attack from reoccurring in the future.

To me, it just seems that Microsoft, lacking consumer trust, has forseen (finally) a stumbling block with their new .NET initiative and has figured that they need to have a better "trust" with their customers in order to be successful. What do you think?

You can't blame them for taking initiative - even if it is a little late. Go Micro!

Microsoft is used to "punish users" just because they think they are the best and the only ... Now they are learning that there is big group of people moving away from Microsoft products..

If they were not afraid of loosing the market share, they would do nothing for us..

Uh, the X-boxes have been crashin like crazy since launch.
Microsoft is run by a man who thought the internet was a "fad", then created his own isp and "embraced" the internet. MSN was created as an alternative to the internet.

THE LIST GOES ON AND ON....

Microsoft must be stopped, Long live Linux!

What's the matter with that? If that's what you believe, blame all the people who buy their software, not them. If I was the head of a major corporation, I would squish the competition every chance I got and as long as my product was still selling like hotcakes, I wouldn't see any need to spend more money making it better.

Your customers wouldn't be very happy would they then?

Hence they would not buy your products.
And you would no longer be the head of a big company.
It would be under new management *ehem* (microsoft).

Microsoft will be the end of computing, if it gets everything it wants....

Whatever the case, all I can see is that Microsoft is just being competitive in one of the most competitive industries in the world. I support them 100% and think that they are one of the best things ever to happen to computing. I have half a dozen posters of Bill Gates hanging on my wall.
