    Default 3DMark2001 SE Announced

MadOnion has released the second edition to 3DMark2001, 3DMark2001 SE. MadOnion is no longer supporting the original version (build 200) and they urge everybody to use the SE version. Your registration codes for the non-SE software will work with the new version. Here are the changes:

    Major Improvements

    - Support for Microsoft DirectX® 8.1
    - Fully compatible with Windows XP®
    - New test utilizing pixel shader 1.4
    - Updated ‘system info’ which can now display additional system configuration info, including installed hard drives and AGP settings
    - Support for the latest AMD® and Intel® processors

    Minor Improvements

    - The usage of compressed textures has been optimized.
    - The dynamic shadows in the game tests now work correctly on all supported hardware.
    - There is a new texture format 'DXTC1 only', enabling compressed texture usage on cards supporting DXTC1 only.
    - All reported compatibility issues have been addressed.

    Important Notes

    - Benchmark results from the original release of 3DMark2001 and 3DMark2001 SE ARE COMPARABLE. When comparing results, please note that every performance-testing tool has a small margin of error. If testing conditions do not vary, 3DMark2001 SE is accurate within a 3% error margin.
    - 3DMark2001 SE has shown a minor average performance increase, but it remains below the 3% error margin.
    - 3DMark2001 SE is available as a full version download only.
    - The registration codes for 3DMark2001 also work for 3DMark2001 SE.

    You can download it here

If you download and install it, respond to this news and let us know what your specs are and what kind of scores you got. Also let us know what scores you were getting in the non-SE version.

My score jumped from 7433 to 7484, which is pretty much what they described as a slight performance boost. The new test with the docked boat and the fish is visually impressive, and my GeForce3 handled it without trouble.

I got a pretty horrible score, 2737, but I didnt test it with the 1st Edition. I'm running a GeForce2 GTS 64MB Card, so it can't handle some of the tests...

I just retested it after formatting, and I jumped up to 4088.
