Spotted at /., a developer named Chris Gilbert (is working on a port/hack of FreeBSD with the screen theme and interface of the Navi computer systems from Serial Experiments Lain. LainOS is an X frontend that will feature an animated login screen and widgets.

The concept OS used in the series was known as Copland OS Enterprise, which was a presuppository take-off on Apple's Copland OS. Copland soon became stillborn , as its features were slowly integrated into the subsequent releases of MacOS 8, 9, and now X, which many consider to be the final product based on the Copland concept.

No word yet on whether Gilbert plans to release a neurokinetic interface for LainOS, or if it has Masami Eiri's seventh-generation protocol included, or if he plans on making Pashuke processors next...
