Fiorina: The last remnants of the Old Republic have been swept away.
As reported by
CNN/Money, HP's board of directors has moved to leave behind Walter Hewlett, the son of
HP founding member Bill Hewlett, after his insistence on fighting back against the
proposed HP/Compaq merger. Hewlett believes that merging with Compaq is one of the worst possible moves the company could make, emphasizing that it would play down its highly successful core business of printing and imaging, and drag it kicking and screaming into the dying home PC marketplace.
Following Fiorina's rather
premature announcement about the "success" of the merger, Hewlett
filed suit to block the merger. HP, still claiming victory, is choosing instead to fight the
PR war to humiliate Hewlett into dropping the issue and moving on.
