Default Grid Computing soon to be at an office near you!

What is grid computing? Users of KaZaA and Seti@Home have a clue.

Grid computing is being eyed by major corporations as a new tool to help with their ever growing computing needs in the workplace but what exactly is it? I think TechWeb writes it best by saying:
    Quote:
"Grid computing" generally describes large-scale distributed computing involving multiple clusters of PCs in multiple locations whose combined power rivals that of supercomputers.
Users of popular software programs such as SETI@Home and United Devices Cancer Research Project are already participating by using their personal hardware and free CPU clock cycles to help these compaies try and crunch an astronomical amout of data in a short period of time. Most notably, looking for a cure for cancer.

TechWeb has posted a bevy of articles related to grid computing detailing what is coming down the pipe from companies such as Microsoft, HP, IBM, and Sun as well as real world examples of how this technology is being used right now.

You can start your journey by visiting Techweb and see what your computer does when you are not around. Who knows, maybe your computer will be responsible for the next medical breakthrough but, for some reason, I doubt your name will be credited!
