Re Matrix - when trying to install the DX9 and it quits - BEFORE saying 'ok' (coz this deletes the temp files) - go to your temp dir and find the folder where the dx was unpacked - within grab a copy of just the d3d9.dll - copy this to your Matrix folder. Play away....

    hi all,
i have a system with following configurations.

asus a7v8x -mx mobo (asus via km series chipset)
amd athlon 2600 xp processor with 333 fsb
hyundai 512mb DDR 333 fsb memory
nvidia geforce fx5200 128mb magic v9520 card from asus.
    directx 9.0

when ever i try to launch any game the game just quits without playing.there is no problem installing any game but i cannot play it bcoz it quits immediately when i click on the set up icon.for example i tried playing MAX PAYNE. the game was installed without any problem.but when i click on the max payne icon to launch the game the bar goes only till 35% and i get back to the desktop screen where i have the icon for launching the max payne.
the same problem exsists on all other game sas well.i have tried installing the game on windows xp professional as well as home edition.tried formatting and reinstalling both the opertaing system several times.increased virtual memory paging size and all other stuffs on net.tried running games on direct x 8.1.nogo.have sent mails to asus .nvidia, amd, and posted this article on a host of other forums.have also tried installing the service pack for win xp.tried running the game on win 98se. nogo.i am pissed off bcos i bought all these specs bcos each one have known to have deliverd ultimate performance and just when thery got together everything seems to fail!!

the game quits immediately on launching and some people sayitzcompatibility issue between amd processors and direct x software.is there anyone who had the sameproblem and plz share your experience with me so that i can get to play games on this comp.this 1500$ comp that i asembled with gr8 expectations has nothing but problems right from day one.me being a mad after graphics have gone mad bcoz none of the games r even working leave alone them crashing.i am extremely disappointed and any help from any one is greatly appreciated.my email adress is srihari_s@lycos.com .
eagerly awaiting response from any one on this planet who have been victims of these supposed to be high end products

Smile ABOUT THE DIRECTX INCOMPATIBLE THING

HEY....I KNOW SOMETHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT THE DIRECTX INCOMPATIBLE THING:

    1) When you have installed the incompatible one, when it says "blah, blah, blah, its not the same language..." just click "OK".

    2) Now open "My computer", select C:\ (your local driver), and there should be a map called "eeecdc608c6a97279beda830b3e"
    - or something like that - this is where the temporary installation files are stored.

    3) Open the map, and the file you'll need is the "d3d8.dll" - there should be no problem copying the file - DLL files dosn't SPEAK any languages it is just codes.

    4) Copy the file to your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DLLCACHE - if you can find it, click on Functions > Map Settings and select "Show hided files" or something like that. Now you have overwritten your Windows Protection file so that Windows won't replace the new d3d8.dll file with the old one.

    5) When the copy is dont, copy the file again to your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 dir. and the installation is done...

    6) Now try to see if the game or *wtf* else you needed the installation for, works properly...

BY THE WAY: If you don't have the INCOMPATIBLE installation program anymore its VERY BAD FOR YOU - its very hard to find on the internet because its so OLD - but...DONT WORRY, just email me if you need the installation program, then i will send it to you my friend....keep it real!
