Default The Bluffers guide to Backing-up DVD to DivX

Shhhh - it's for backup purposes only. Really.

OCA has a comprehensive guide to backing up DVD to DivX online today titled, The Bluffers guide to Backing-up DVD to DivX. With the emergence of new software and faster hardware, the PC is now a viable tool to backing up your home movies, personal DVD collection and anything else you may want to convert. Here's a snip from the review.

What you need: A PC with 128M ram and at 1G or better CPU. This has been tried and tested on Win2K (sp2). Do a disk defrag before and after every successful creation but only after you have deleted all the "old" files that got created but are no longer needed. A sound card that can play MP3. Turn off any power save options that relay on keyboard activity. Have at least 8G (NTFS or FAT32) of disk space. Conversion is almost entirely CPU intensive, and whatever CPU you have will run 100% utilized during the various processes. So be sure your PC has a fast processor and good cooling.

    Question

Just wondering: I own a DVD. I make a divX that's legal becasue I own the DVD. Then I lend the DVD to my friend for a week. Does that make my divX unuseable untill the DVD is returned? Or is it illegal to lend people DVD's? I would read the warning on the DVD, but it's being borrowed.
