    Default MS-DOS version error??

a friend of mine somehow mucked up their comp worse than I've ever done (hard to believe, eh?). Anyways, it wont recognize that drive C exists, and when it does and I try to install an OS (win95), it says MS-DOD error version.

    How can I fix this??

What version of DOS was used to Format the drive?

This could cause a problem. If you can make a boot disk of the OS you're planning on installing and use Format of that version, this could solve a lot of problems.

I forgot to mention, after I unsuccessfully run the win95 install cd, it'll recognize drive C

I wonder if this has something to do with FAT-32?

No. If the drive was FDISK with FAT32 and it was an old version of 95 that only did FAT16, then the error would be different (it wouldn't even see the drive).

open said case and make sure all the cables are secure

go to a friend's place and jack a Win98 boot disk. Use that to format (when you run FDisk, make sure you disable fat32 support when you start fdisk, or 95 will throw worse fits)

    reformat then.

It doesnt see the drive, until after I try (unsuccessfully) to install win95

unless its a 386/486 it can handle 98 fine (but if its one of those, why are you using it???)

    Donno then....

Here's a quick solution, though may not be feasible. Go to pricewatch, buy a new motherboard, processor, hard-drive, video card, sound card, and just build a new one! If their still using windows 95, they need to come out of the closet and upgrade. Though 98 and ME aren't really all that great themselves, but I think I like the XP. So far, no problems, except the fact that I'm using a Voodoo3500 video card!
