Win XP over Win ME
Can I install Win XP over Win ME without wiping my harddrive? I have alot of stuff in programs I don't want to lose. For instance I have the family tree program with 300+ famliy members put in it and don't want to wipe it out. Also I have around 1200 maps in my Unreal Tournament program. If I can't put XP over ME ,then is there a program I can use to save these on zip or cd? Or on my back up drive D.

there WILL be an upgrade for ME to XP, but classically M$' upgrades have sucked.
Reccomendation: BACK YOUR STUFF UP (good rule of thumb in general.)

XP was a good clean install
XP to me was a good clean install. The only problem I have had thus far is finding drivers for my SBLive Value card. There aren't any for XP yet... guess I should have waited... oh well...
But, my suggestion is to make sure that when you install it, use its drive format option and make two drives, one for windows and applications, and one for your personal data and music, etc.... (including backed up copies of Family Tree Maker Data files).
And by the way, the format program on the XP cd is really nice, very straight forward, anyone will be able to use it.
So, along with most everyone, back up, and do a clean install. It makes things run a lot faster.

Re: SBLive Problems
Well, I posted my first comment this morning before classes, I installed XP last night, and now, at about 3:30 I got the sound card to work. I don't know what happened, I simply just restarted my computer a few times due to other programs I was installing, and on the last one, BLANG, I have sound.
So, for me, it was a (an almost) completely flawless clean install, but I had also backed up everything that I needed. Remember to back up.
That is it.. I just wanted to say that everything is now working, so you get the whole story...

Gilbert = Teacher I've had for classes before
Gilberts rule #1: When in doubt, save
Gilberts Rule #2: Since there is ALWAYS doubt, save often.
Murphy's Law: Just when you think something can't go wrong, it will go so wrong you are COMPLETELY blown away by it.
My rule of thumb: Back up the stuff you know you want, and then the stuff you think you want. Reformat and realize you blew away the results from 5 hours of heat sink testing. Step 2: Kick yourself repeatedly for it.
