    Question "Illegal Operation" Error

I just finished building a system for a customer. The specs are: P3800EB, 256MB SDRAM, IBM 40GB,Intel 815EEA2L MB, SB Live 5.1, ATI Radeon 32MB Video, USR Modem, Plextor 16x10x40 CDRW, Toshiba SD-M2502 DVD, Win 98SE, Norton AV, WPOffice2000.
The odd thing is that everything seems very happy and stable until you try to change the screen saver!??? Nine out of ten time it comes up with the "This program has performed an illegal operation" error. If you click OK it pops back up about 6-10 times and then goes away. (Never does shut down the program that I have seen). I know it is a minor thing but when you have a brand new system that you paid big bucks for you certainly don't appreciate something like that. Luckily for me this customer is one of my good friends--but this also makes it very embarrassing for me! When I first installed the software I installed all operations of the "Norton System Works" package. I had all sorts of conflicts going on so I uninstalled everything except the virus scanner and it all seemed fine so I left it that way.
Well, that is my tale of woe--anybody got any ideas or suggestions??

It is running Win98SE. I figured the first thing to try would be to re-install Windows but in the meantime I thought I would see if anyone out there had more ideas. Thanks for the input--please keep it coming.

This sounds stupid but what screen saver are you trying to change to? Is it one of the OpenGL screen savers that come with Windows? I'm thinking DirectX or Video Driver related but can you list what tests you have done to the system already?
